Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is defending his statements about possibly deporting undocumented Armenian workers from Turkey.

Erdogan said the media was wrong to compare Roma and Armenian citizens to illegal immigrants.

The Prime Minister said his comments in an interview with the B-B-C, while in London, were distorted.

In that interview Tuesday, with the B-B-C Turkish service, it was reported that Erodogan said illegal immigrants from Armenia could be expelled.

That sparked outrage among the opposition parties in Turkey and the Turkish media.

The Prime Minsiter says things are evaluated differently for citizens within the framework of the law.

Speaking at the headquarters of the ruling AK PARTY today, Erdogan added that Turkish citizens are different from people who reside in the country illegally.

Erdogan said the foreign press had misinterpreted his definition of “illegal."

He added he was not addressing Turkish citizens of Armenian heritage.

He also fired back at those asking for an apology.

The Prime Minister said quote “We know very well who that apology should come from.”

Erdogan made, what some call a threat to deport illegal Armenias, after U-S and Swedish lawmakers approved resolutions that recognize the Ottoman-era killings of Armenians as so-called "genocide."
