Turkey condemned the vote, labeling the 1915 killing of Armenians as SO-CALLED “genocide” and recalled its ambassador to Washington for consultations.
Turkish President Abdullah Gül said, in a statement, that the decision wasn´t reasonable and he strongly condemned it
Gül said the resolution had no value in the eyes of the Turkish people.
He added Turkey will not be responsible for the negative ramifications that this vote may have in every field.
The Turkish President also warned the resolution would deal a blow to fledgling efforts to end decades of hostility between Turkey and Armenia.
Meantime, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Turkey condemned this bill that denounces the Turkish nation for a crime that it has not committed.
Erdoğan said he is seriously concerned that the, non-binding resolution, would harm Turkish-U.S. ties and efforts by Muslim Turkey and Christian Armenia to bury a century of hostility.
Suat Kınıklıoğlu of the ruling AK PARTY, said the supporters of the measure did not expect such a close vote.
He says the outcome taught them a lesson.
The Chairman of the Turkish Parliament´s Foreign Affairs Committee, Murat Mercan, called the committe vote nothing but a "great comedy."
Mercan said No matter how the resolution ends in the near future, Turkey will definitely not be a loser and there will be no winners.
Mercan said The only entity that won due to Thursday´s voting was a handful of Armenian diaspora members, who have undermined the good will and stability in the Caucasus region.
Turkish Parliament Speaker Mehmet Ali Sahin said, "we see that the so-called Armenian allegations have corroded and lost credibility."
Sahin said I also expect and wish for the U-S Parliament to correct this historical mistake soon.
