Holbrooke arrived in the Pakistani capital after a brief visit to Kabul.
It is Holbrooke´s second visit to Pakistan this year.
It comes at a time when Pakistan is gearing up for secretary-level talks with India.
Holbrooke met with Pakistani Prime Minister Yusaf Raza Gilani in the morning.
He also met with President Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan´s Foreign Secretary later in the day.
The main focus of the talks was the current Afghanistan situation, in the wake of the ongoing NATO offensive in Afghanistan.
In Kabul Wednesday, Holbrooke welcomed the capture of Taliban military commander Abdul Baradar in Pakistan,
He called it "a significant development," and said it could deal a heavy blow to the Taliban´s eight-year war in Afghanistan.
Hokbrooke also praised Pakistan´s role in the arrest, saying it was part of the deepening cooperation between the Pakistani and U-S security agencies.
