The Turkish Football Federation opened a tender for broadcasting rights to Turkey’s top football division at 11 a.m. on January 14, 2009 at the T-F-F center in İstinye, Istanbul.

The bidding for the new broadcasting tender for the Turkcell Super League, which includes four seasons, started at $214.3 million dollars.

Only two bidders remained in the tender, Digiturk, and Turk Telekom, the Turkish communications giant.

Starting bids for Digiturk and Turk Telekom were $220 million dollars and $215 million dollars, respectively.

The tender covers the 2010 to 2011, 2011 to 2012, 2012 to 2013 and 2013 to 2014 football seasons.

The “A package” includes the rights of live broadcasting at Super League matches and has an appraised value of $214-point-3 million dollars.

The winning bidder will be able to broadcast live matches without a technology limit, which means the broadcasts could be over television, mobile phone or the Web.

The company will be able to sub-license, selling some rights to other companies.

The “B package" includes 15-minute long summaries of Super League matches that are broadcasted live, plus 3-minute broadcasts of other matches and the live broadcast rights of League A matches.

The winning bidder will be able to use the 15-minute summary right only once. The appraised value of the package stands at $40-point-2 million dollars.

The “C package," with an appraised value of $13-point-4 million, includes the rights to broadcast three-minute summaries of matches in mobile devices.

Thus, the total appraised value of three packages has reached $267-point-9 million.
